2013 Durango Fiesta Days Queen

At 79 years old, Fiesta is a grand old lady. Celebrate our Spanish and Native American history and cowboy heritage with rodeos, a downtown parade, barrel races, chuck wagon cook-off, pancake breakfast, and much more. Celebrate in Durango as we look to the past and to the future in July. All events will be at the Durango Fairgrounds (except for the BarBQ/Pie Auction/Street Dance and the Parade).

Fiesta Days was born in 1935 – then called Spanish Trails Fiesta. Fiesta was a community gathering to bring together the areas diverse cultures and create an atmosphere of cultural awareness. The first ‘Queen’ rode down Main Street wearing a Spanish Mantilla.    The native tribes from all around the four corners came, set up tents along the river, and camped for several weeks just enjoying the cultural exchange. In 1966, under a new committee, the name was changed to Navajo Trails Fiesta, and in 1986 another name change occurred – Durango Fiesta Days. The intent remains the same – bring the town together to enjoy our heritage, the sport of Rodeo and celebrate our diverse cultures.

The 79th Durango Fiesta Days is in full swing, with sponsorship drives and Royalty events planned for this spring and summer. The schedule is set for the major events of Fiesta 2014, and as we add more events, we will add them to the Events Schedule. We ask that all community members help us make this 79th year a huge success. Any and all help is needed and greatly appreciated. Call us, send us an email, or mail us a sponsorship donation to help us achieve this year’s goals. Thanks in advance for everyone’s help!!

Snow Top  Rodeo is looking for community sponsors for our 5th year activities. We need sponsors for the T-shirts we give to each participant, and this year we are looking to put together a ‘goodie bag’ for each participant. Contact Kaynet Rathjen, 970-749-8697 or Cindi Brevik, 970-749-4960 for more details or to help with this exciting community event.
